Portable Knife Wrap

A compact knife wrap designed for mobile use. The flexible cover protects both the knife and surrounding belongings during transport, then unfolds into a temporary preparation surface.
From Protective Wrap to Working Surface
The project began with a simple question: how can a kitchen knife be transported safely without carrying a rigid case? Over two weeks, different folding, wrapping and support principles were explored, leading to a flexible system combining transport, protection and use.

Material, Structure & Prototype
Development progressed directly through material studies and physical prototypes. Perforated sheets, translucent plastic components, felt and flexible technical materials were tested for bending behaviour, protection, tactility, joining and fabrication.

Orange / Translucent / Metal
The final material concept combines signal-orange technical textile with translucent plastic, soft felt and exposed metal components. The contrast between flexible, soft, transparent and metallic surfaces defines the visual identity of the project.

Final Prototype
The final prototype combines knife storage, protection and a flexible working surface in one compact system. For the final presentation, the product was photographed and documented as a postcard series, with an additional sleeve made from the remaining orange material.

Unfold. Prepare. Pack.
For transport, the knife is fully wrapped inside the flexible cover. At the destination, the wrap unfolds into a temporary cutting or preparation surface, while the integrated structure provides a defined place for the knife between uses.

Designed to Travel
The concept is intended for mobile cooking situations such as camping, picnics or temporary kitchens. The wrap requires little additional storage space while combining transport, protection and use in one object.
